The basics: fifth edition at the Allianz Cloud
Milan is hosting the Premier Padel tour for the fifth consecutive year at the Allianz Cloud, and the tournament has been a fixture since the circuit’s inaugural 2022 season. The men’s and women’s finals are scheduled for Sunday, October 18.
Coello and Tapia: 11 titles in 2026 and counting
Coello and Tapia have won 11 titles this season, including three straight at the Paris Major, the Rotterdam P2, and the Dusseldorf P2 (where they beat Stupaczuk and Sanz 6-2, 7-6 on October 11). A Milan crown would be title No. 12 and four in a row. The one blemish on their Milan record: last year’s final, which they lost from a set up.
The defending champions: Galan and Chingotto
Alejandro Galan and Fede Chingotto return to defend the men’s title they won here last October in one of the most dramatic finals of the Premier Padel era. Coello and Tapia raced to a 6-2 first set before Galan and Chingotto flipped the match 6-3 and then blanked the world No. 1s 6-0 in the decider. That final was the first time Coello and Tapia had ever dropped a set 6-0 together. Revenge narratives do not get cleaner than this: the No. 1 pair lost its most shocking set here, on this court, against this team.
The surprise pairing: Yanguas and Lijo
Coki Nieto withdrew with injury for the second straight tournament, so top-ten player Mike Yanguas is playing Milan with a surprise stand-in partner: veteran Pablo Lijo, replacing Nieto. Keep an eye on how fast they gel; Yanguas is too good a player to be an easy out even with a new partner.
Women’s draw: four pairs with a real claim
The women’s field is headlined by top seeds Delfina Brea and Gemma Triay. Right behind them: Martina Calvo and Claudia Fernandez, who arrive in Milan straight off their Dusseldorf P2 title, where they beat Ariana Sanchez and Andrea Ustero 6-3, 6-0 in the final for their second title together. One more wrinkle: last year’s women’s champions, Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria, have gone their separate ways. Sanchez now plays with Andrea Ustero, while Josemaria has teamed up with Bea Gonzalez, so the defending crown is split across two new pairs. Italian fans also have a home pair to follow in Carolina Orsi and Patty Llaguno, who fought through to the round of 16. The early rounds have already produced a batch of upsets, so do not assume the seeds hold.
Rings, not just trophies
Milan is doing something no other stop does this year: borrowing a page from the NBA and NFL, the tournament will hand its champions custom championship rings, designed for the 2026 edition, in addition to the trophy.
